Red Rock Subs: Yes, the Subs Rock

I sometimes feel a little stressed when I get a craving for Red Rock Subs. There’s the backing out of the parking lot onto manic Broadway stress and there’s often a wait, even for online orders so I need to plan extra time.

I’ve solved these obstacles by parking in the 76 station lot just south of Red Rocks and I remind myself that good things are worth the wait and there’s a wait because everyone knows Red Rock Subs are good.

Here’s what I think is so good about them:

Bread

Red Rocks offers french, sourdough and wheat bread. I always get the french bread. I like that it's a wider baguette, kinda like a submarine, and it is easy to eat because the crust isn’t the thick kind that cuts the roof of your mouth. Some of the sandwiches on the menu are toasted, some aren’t and I think sometimes they forget to toast things so I always make sure to request toasting. It adds a little extra flavor and texture and keeps other ingredients from soaking into the bread.

Garlic Mayo

There’s a few sandwiches on the menu that don’t have garlic mayo and I’ve never ordered any of them. Because they don’t have garlic. I love that there is always ample garlic mayo on my sandwich and I don’t mind that it can get a little messy.

Kettle Roasted Turkey Sandwich

They have a vat of slow-roasted pulled butterball turkey ready to make this delicious sandwich. It’s a simple sandwich ingredient-wise but it’s very savory and satisfying. They add some thick-sliced grilled onions and cheddar cheese. And garlic mayo otherwise I would never have tried it.

I didn’t order this sandwich for myself on my recent visit because my son wanted one and I knew he wouldn’t eat all of it. I saved half for the next day, wrapped it in foil and put it in the convection oven for 20 minutes.  It may have been even better than the day it was made because the outside of the bread crisped up a little making every bite delightful.

I ordered a Ruben because I’m always looking for the best, meaning better than the one I make at home. It was a pretty good sandwich with pastrami cut on the thicker side, but it could have used a little more swiss and the bread wasn’t toasted because going against my rule, I forgot to ask.

My husband had the California Club on wheat. It was packed with fresh flavors of turkey, avocado and tomato. Usually, it comes with sprouts, but they were out.

Red Rock Subs has a huge selection of chips to go with your lunch and they have delicious Stubborn Sodas. I’m not a soda drinker but an occasional cherry soda is nice and theirs has tarragon added and it’s tasty. There are salads, soups, sides and desserts as well as vegan and vegetarian sandwiches on the menu.
