Refined Coffee Opens, Offers Quality Drinks Near College
North Everett, rejoice -- there’s a new coffee shop north of downtown! Refined Coffee opened in mid-November of this year near Everett Comminty College. They are a local, family-owned and -operated business, serving up Everett’s own Velton’s Coffee and pastries from Wander and The Creamery in Marysville. As co-owner and CEO Jeremiah Weiland says, “It’s our heart to serve as much local as possible.”
Jeremiah studied coffee at the Seattle Barista Academy and brings excellence to his craft.
At Refined Coffee, customers can enjoy Instagram-friendly lounge chairs, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi. The minimal decor and ample seating make for an inviting place to have a casual business meetup or, say, study for midterm exams. Indeed, Refined Coffee sits in the corner of a small strip mall in the heart of the college district. Students from WSU, UW Bothell, Western and Central cross Broadway to get some concentrated and caffeinated focus at Refined Coffee.
This place is remarkable because Refined Coffee almost... well, wasn’t. The Weiland family set out to open in 2019. The global pandemic, contractor issues, and a series of family tragedies pushed back the opening date. At several points in the past three years, it seemed like Refined Coffee just wasn’t going to happen. Jeremiah and co. put in new plumbing, new ceilings, and thereby painstakingly converted an old Western Union into something completely new. During hard times, the Weiland family pushed on in the faith that this place was meant to be.
As Jeremiah explains, these obstacles to opening added a new dimension to the name Refined Coffee. Refined metal is metal that has been superheated to remove purities, leaving only the essential nature of the material. Refined Coffee’s trial by fire has only served to create the type of place that needed to be there all along -- a neighborhood destination for quality coffee.
As it opens this month, Refined Coffee joins the ranks of the Milk House, Nadine’s, Narrative, and Cafe Makario as a top-notch cafe, the kind of spot that Everett is increasingly known for. It’s in the right place at the right time as the college district continues to expand and develop into a first-rate local option for higher education.
So, cheers to Refined Coffee! Stop by and see if this local cafe isn’t your new favorite spot to sip an Americano and get some work done on that project you’ve been putting off.
