Spot Check: Houseplants Galore

I was at City Radiator and Auto Repair having my brakes worked on recently when owner Liz McAllister told me about a cool shop that had just opened up in the strip mall next door, Houseplants Galore. A store with a singular focus is always nice to see in this age of online shopping and big-box stores, so I was excited to check it out.

Owner Steve Compton previously ran a nursery in Mill Creek but felt the Everett market was ready for a store dedicated to indoor plants. Good thing he's patient; after viewing 50-or-so spaces that weren't quite right, he happened upon the spot he ultimately ended up in while driving on Everett Mall Way. It's deceptively large thanks to its shape, and the wide-open space was perfect for the displays he wanted to build.

One advantage at Houseplants Galore is how clean everything is. All the plants are washed so you don't have to worry as much about bringing bugs and dirt in your home as you would if they were bought from a nursery or large hardware store. And no grocery store floral department can compete with the selection.

As it's a new shop—a month old when I visited—they're still gearing up, but have big plans. The succulent bar is expanding constantly, and Compton plans to host events and classes in the store. Follow them on Facebook to know what's coming up.

Houseplants Galore wants all your plants to thrive, even the ones they didn't sell you. Bring in your plants that are struggling and they'll figure out what you need to do to help them look great again. Visit them soon and turn your home into an indoor plant paradise.
