Alright, let's be real. If you're like us, Thanksgiving week is more about fitting a week's worth of work into three days than it is about reflecting on what you're actually thankful for.

If you spend time hanging around Everett, you'll see homelessness. And, we'd be hypocrites if we didn't admit to being annoyed when we see needles strewn about, or garbage that piles up near the Mission. Yes, that's annoying. Humans are annoying. But, if your heart doesn't break when you see a human outside on the street, in the night, in the middle of winter, you're probably a robot.

Okay, that's enough soapbox. Here's something practical and small you can do to help.

Socks are among the most needed but least donated items at homeless shelters. Dry socks are essential to anyone living on the streets. Being without warm, dry socks can lead to foot ailments including infections, frostbite, and even blood poisoning.

Our friends (and sponsor) over at McClain Insurance are collecting socks through the end of November (for TOEvember). Even better, McClain will match every pair of socks donated, sock for sock. They're the only TOEvember sock drop-off location who is offering this matching program.

We want to help them rock the socks off the sock drop and blow the crap out the toe-tal Toevember goal (which is 10,000 pairs!).

So, people of Everett, do you have some new socks laying around? Consider taking them to McClain before the end of the month. Better yet, if you're in North Everett and can't make it to McClain, we'll bring them for you. Promise. If you're north of 41st street, just leave the socks on your porch on November 30th by 9am and we'll come by and pick em up. Like a sock Santa of sorts, but instead of driving a sleigh and leaving presents, we're be driving a Prius and picking up socks. Muy importante!! Everett High School grad Matt Hammerstrom started the TOEvember movement last Halloween. Through the help of social media, the 2015 TOEvember sock drive brought in 6,100 pairs of socks for shelters in Snohomish and King Counties. This year, he hopes to top 10,000 pairs.
