Take Part In National Novel Writing Month in Snohomish County

Have you ever wanted to write a book?

Do you enjoy pushing yourself to achieve the improbable?

Are you looking for a community that will support your writing endeavors?

What is National Novel Writing Month?

NaNoWriMo believes your story matters and provides the structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds—on and off the page. Every November, people worldwide take on the challenge to write 50,000 words in 30 days. This literary abandon takes place in coffee shops, bookstores, libraries and online spaces where writers can come together to get the daily goal of 1,667 words written.

What is NaNoSnoCo?

NaNoSnohomishCounty is the local chapter of NaNoWriMo. Our events serve to connect the 400+ Snohomish writers to each other and the community at large. Last November, NaNoSnoCo hosted over 110 hours of writing! NaNoSnoCo strives to be a welcoming, encouraging, and accepting place where people can find a home and achieve the unthinkable. Since 2016 NaNoSnoCo has been lead by Stephanie Ridiculous Fields, the local Municipal Liaison.

How do I sign up?

Head over to nanowrimo.org to register an account, where you can launch your 2019 project, connect with the global community, and find the local one. Search for Snohomish County under “regions” to find the official home of NaNoSnoCo. For more information, you can also follow us on Twitter, Instagram, or join the Facebook group.

Writing a book in a month seems impossible! What can I do to prepare?

If November is National Novel Writing Month, October is Preptober. We spend October preparing for November by writing outlines, building worlds, and meeting our fellow participants. You can join the preparation by attending one of the Preptober events:

Upcoming & November Events

This October we have four Prep Events to help you meet the community, get A’s to your Q’s, and prepare your writing for November. The two virtual events will take place on the regional Discord server, which you can get access to by visiting the region on NaNoWriMo’s website, joining the region’s Facebook group, or following NaNoSnoCo on Twitter.

To get your November off to the right start, there are two Kick-Off events:

The Annual Virtual Midnight Kick-Off starts at 11 p.m. on October 31 in the Discord server. Join us for camaraderie, encouragement, and writing sprints beginning right at midnight and continuing through 1 a.m.

Our Kick-Off Celebration is on November 1st, from 6-11 p.m. Join us at the PUD Electric and Training Center in Everett to play games, eat snacks and get a solid start to the month’s writing. There will be goodie bags for the first 30 attendees! Please drop in as your schedule allows.

While the November calendar is still being finalized, events are in the works in Everett, Edmonds, Sultan, Snohomish, Lake Stevens, and Arlington. Check the resources above for up to date information and to get connected.

Join us, won’t you?
