Big Weekend in Everett

It's going to be a big weekend in the city.

Too bad you can't clone yourself because you’ll definitely want to be in multiple places at once.

Here’s what's going on.

FRESH PAINT
Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM-5 PM

Buy art fresh off the easel! The Schack Art Center presents Fresh Paint.

Over 100 artists will fill the waterfront promenade— the space turns into a giant open-air studio and gallery as glassblowers, wood carvers, and potters share their craft with the public.

Judy Tuohy, Executive Director of the Schack, says, "Fresh Paint is a wonderful opportunity to meet local artists and learn about their craft... it inspires [people] to get their hands dirty and try something new."

Elizabeth Person, Everett artist, has this to say about FP: "When demonstrating at my booth, I find it very satisfying to show my process and answer questions, especially from curious kids who come right up to my table to watch me draw, splatter and paint."

Yes. There will be two stages with live entertainment and music, food, and a beer garden hosted by Everett Music Initiative.

Admission is free and you can catch Everett Transit buses there.

FUNKO OPENING
Saturday 9 AM

Word is that hardcore Funatics will be lining up at Wetmore Plaza starting at 4AM. Like Willy Wonka’s factory, there are a limited number of tickets for Funko office tours. They are running groups of 25 through the building, which I hear is full of humongous toys and has a feel that’s on par with Disneyland. Yes. Correct. "The Happiest Place on Earth" has a rival.

Also, someone told me there is an indoor bowling alley?! Unconfirmed. But I dig it.

HENRY AT BLACK LAB GALLERY
All weekend

Famed Ballard muralist Henry opened his show at the Black Lab Art Gallery yesterday. It rules. It would be a good weekend to pop by the BLG and view canvases while you sip a nice white zin.

I caught up with Henry for a minute while he was hanging canvases. He said Everett has a "funky, cool" vibe and that it reminds him of Ballard back in the day. He's open to painting more E-Town murals so if you know anyone local who's looking hit him up.

DRONE RACES AT XFINITY ARENA
Saturday 11 AM

Drones. They are remote-controlled flying robots of the future.

There will be a drone race at Xfinity Arena. Teams will zip their airborne creations around the stadium at 80MPH to win points. Each event ticket includes access to unlimited laser tag, virtual reality games, dodgeball, and drone flight simulators. A great value.
