Enchanting Everett: The Magical Journey of Magic Monty Reed
Earlier this year, we shared our great experience seeing Magic Monty’s Monthly Magic Show at EI Bar & Stage. Magic Monty performs all new material every month. We were so impressed we wanted to learn more about this remarkable magician bringing magic to Everett.
Oh, and if you’d like to witness Magic Monty for yourself, his next show at e.i. bar & stage is on August 12, and he’ll also perform street magic at the Everett Food Truck Festival on August 11+12.
Monty's magical journey began at the tender age of six, when he sat wide-eyed in front of the television, watching the classic Harry Houdini movie with his family. Inspired by the legendary escape artist's feats, young Monty found his calling in magic. It didn't take long for him to take center stage and perform his first magic show at a senior living community in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood. This momentous event marked the genesis of a lifelong love affair with magic.
Monty's dedication to magic as he grew older led him to perform at birthday parties and senior living communities, specializing in "Parlor Magic." “My sister and I did the famous Escape Magic Trick called "Metamorphosis" or "Substitution Trunk" Harry Houdini,” Monty shared.
However, life had other plans for Monty, and after high school, he embarked on a path that would take him far away from the world of magic.
The turning point in Monty's life came when he joined the US Army with dreams of becoming an Airborne Ranger. Sadly, during his fourth year of service, an unfortunate parachute accident left him with a broken back. This life-changing event could have broken his spirit, but Monty's resilience shone through. Instead of giving up, he channeled his determination into medical research while in the hospital in 1987.
Monty's nonprofit organization, "They Shall Walk," became a beacon of hope for paralyzed individuals as he developed the groundbreaking LIFESUIT powered exoskeleton. This incredible invention allowed over 2000 paralyzed people to walk and experience the joy of mobility, earning Monty a prestigious Guinness World Record for the Land Speed Record for walking in a "Powered Exoskeleton" at 2.5 MPH.
No wonder Monty wrote a book titled Get STARTED-Don’t Quit.
While Monty's achievements in medical research were remarkable, his heart never truly strayed from magic. The young boy captivated by Houdini's magic had now grown into a man who believed in making the impossible a reality. With an indomitable spirit, he sought out new magical feats and continued to practice his art in the lab.
Monty's journey took another turn in 2019 when he became a full-time magician again. Embracing his childhood love, he leaped into the world of magic with unbridled enthusiasm. His performances were met with awe and wonder, and he quickly became a favorite among young and old audiences.
From corporate events to private parties, Monty's magic continues to spread joy and wonder. His passion for magic is evident, and he loves showing people that anything is possible. Whether it's a child's smile or an audience member's laughter, Monty finds inspiration in the delight of those he entertains.
As Monty's magical journey unfolds, he remains grateful to the people of Everett and the surrounding areas for their unwavering support. His monthly magic shows have become a highlight in the community, and he cherishes the opportunity to share his kid-friendly performances with families and friends alike.
