Farmers Market Celebrates 25th Year, Adds New 2nd Location

115 vendors, live music, and an open-air experience next to the waterfront: there is nothing like the Everett Farmers Market.

It’s dog-friendly, there’s ice cream, fresh bread and flowers, stacks of tomatoes, the smell of kettle corn... it’s all too good.

And it’s just around the corner. Opening day is next Sunday, Mother's Day. On top of that, this year the Everett Farmers Market is celebrating its twenty-fifth birthday. Congrats!

This year the market will also be held at the Everett Station on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first Everett Station market will be held May 23 and will have 33 vendors.

This new location will give people from the Riverside and Port Gardner neighborhoods easier access to seasonal produce and other local goods. Of course, the station is also the main stopping point for many bus routes, which will make transportation to/from the market a breeze.

In general, accessibility is a big part of the farmers market. Vendors accept WIC checks and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers, allowing lower-income individuals and families to stock up on organic produce for free.

It’s coming next week. Are you going? What’s your favorite part of the Everett Farmers Market? Gourmet cheese? Gladiolas? Chili peppers?

PRO TIPS FOR THE MARKET

No cash? No problem.

A lot of vendors have Square readers on their phones and can swipe your debit card. The market will also swipe your card in exchange for special coins that can be used to purchase goods.

Dogs are allowed.

But there are rules. Be sure to check out canine etiquette here before bringing Fido along.

Ready-to-eat foods are available.

I recommend grabbing a tasty slice of woodfired pizza or a corn on the cob and hitting up Boxcar Park right next to the market. Boxcar has designated picnic areas and beautiful views of Puget Sound, scenic islands, the Olympic Mountains, and boats sailing along Jetty Island.

Opening Day...

Last year’s opening day was packed. It was hard to find parking. If you go for opening day this year it may pay to carpool or bus to the waterfront.
