Meet Everett’s Newest Old Music Venue: Kings Hall Launching at Apex
For years, Club Broadway on the corner of Wetmore and Everett Avenues was a bit of a has-been, an eyesore. Like many buildings in downtown Everett, this former Masonic Hall had seen its glory days and was looking for a new tenant or fresh vision to repurpose its great “bones” and brick walls. It was practically begging to be transformed into something original and unique to modern sensibilities.
Club Broadway is no more. In its place, meet Kings Hall, Everett’s newest music venue. It’s a welcome addition to a city that’s already renowned regionally and even nationally as a destination for live music.
Kings Hall opens this month with a special launch party, courtesy of the Everett Music Initiative. The party kicks off with The Grizzled Mighty followed by Helle’s Belles, an all-female AC/DC tribute band. Perfect. For those about to rock in Everett... we salute you.
But wait... this is in Everett? Oh, there’s more.
Kings Hall will also be the permanent home of the world’s largest graffiti and urban art collection, courtesy of the APEX Art and Culture Center. Anyone who has walked or driven through downtown Everett in the past few years has seen how the city’s blank walls have undergone a prismatic transition thanks to dozens of brightly-colored murals. This urban revitalization is part and parcel of the New Everett, and Kings Hall will be a concentration of that vision.
The old Club Broadway/Masonic Temple was purchased this past May by local investor John Carswell. Carswell will continue to transform the three-story brick building, adding an upscale restaurant and cocktail bar as a complement to live music and visual art.
“Although we’re deep in the transformation of one of Everett’s historical spaces, we couldn’t resist bringing people in for a fun weekend of music,” said Carswell. “Downtown Everett has been incredibly welcoming, and we’re excited to add to the growing arts and music community while creating a safe space the community can enjoy.”
