10 (Non-Everett) Bands to See at Fisherman's Village Music Fest.

Fisherman's Village Everett's music festival (and biggest party of the year) is coming up March 31st - April 2nd. The lineup is daunting, in the sense that you're going to have to make tough decisions. I combed through the schedule and picked out my top 10 'must see bands.'

In no particular order, of course.

Jenn Champion
Friday, 7 PM at EPAC (map)
Growing up going to shows in Seattle, Jenn Champion (formerly Jenn Ghetto) was an icon of sorts in my world. In her prolific career, she's been in some of my favorite bands (like S and Carissa's Weird). She's kind of niche, and not for everyone, but to me, her sound is completely unique to her, unpretentious as hell and born from something inside, that we all feel, but can't name.

Karl Blau
Friday, 10 PM at Tony V's Garage (map)
Similar to why I love Jenn Champion, Karl Blau is another prolific Northwest artist who does his own thing. His latest release Introducing Karl Blau is old country covers and gets a lot play around our office. His voice is buttery –  check him out.

Thunderpussy
Friday, 11:30 PM at Tony V's Garage (map)
Thunderpussy is like the opposite of what I love about Karl Blau. It's visceral and loud rock and roll. The sound is familiar and reminiscent of sitting on my dad's lap while he smoked cigarettes and drank beer with his friends with loud classic rock blaring through his garage. Thunderpussy shreds, they write good songs and their live show will make you feel funny.

Cataldo
Saturday, 7 PM at EPAC (map)
I've been excited to check out new sounds from Seattle's Cataldo. Their album from 2015, Gilded Oldies is one of my favorite albums – ever.

Gabriel Mintz
Friday, 7:30 PM at The Anchor Pub (map)
Gabriel Mintz is one of the best modern local musicians. He's a visionary and captivating to see live.

LAKE
Sunday, 8PM at Tony V's Garage (map)
The last time I saw LAKE was in Everett and I remember thinking "I can't believe I am getting to see LAKE in Everett." So, thanks Everett Music Initiative.  LAKE has a new record coming out April 7th and last Friday they put out a new video for their song Magazine. Really excited to check out the new LAKE stuff.

SassyBlack
Saturday, 10:45 PM at The Anchor (map)
SassyBlack is so interesting to me. It's as if Erykah Badu and Portishead hooked up and had a soulful, trippy, psychedelic love child.

Legs
Saturday, 8PM at EPAC (map)
Brooklyn's Legs are described as a mobile cauldron of everything retro and cosmopolitan. This is 100% accurate.

Sloucher
Saturday, 9 PM at Tony V's Garage (map)
Sloucher has a cool mishmash sound. Kinda grungy alternative, kinda lo-fi pop. They write good songs and that's all that matters. I'm excited to catch their live show.

Fruit Juice
Friday, 9:30 PM at The Anchor (map)
Olympia's Fruit Juice is a multi-sensory attack – like an ice cold glass of fruit juice after a late night of drinking. They're eccentric in both sound and stage presence. Get ready.

Weekend wristbands are just $35and kids 12 and under are FREE. It's insanely cheap for a music festival. A huge shout out and thank you to Everett Music Initiative for putting this on and keeping it affordable for everyone.

Besides sailing the S.S. Live in Everett, Tyler and crew own a creative agency called Milltown Creative. He plays guitar in the band TELLERS, loves watching the Everett music scene grow (it's a real thing), and also likes selling real estate.
