Everett Art Walk: A Stroll with Fireball Bill
On the third Thursday of every month, the Everett Art Walk brings out all kinds of Everett folk to enjoy art on display and artists at work at area businesses. Last Thursday night at Solie Funeral Home on Colby Avenue, an artist who brings creativity to his canvas as well as his appearance, set up an outdoor tent for live-painting his latest piece.
He sports a top hat with a flower and a paint-splattered, yellow, striped shirt and goes by the name, Bill Ball Fireball. This artist lives up to his bold name with an energy and passion that manifests in his work through color, texture and content.
On a guided tour, he led us through paintings from his earliest years up till his most recent explaining how his ability and focus has developed over time. From his clothespin piece inspired by Native American patterns to his circular pieces which resemble “stars exploding”, Bill Ball Fireball paints as he is inspired.
The latest series he is creating is aimed at bringing awareness to endangered species. Did you know there are only three white rhinos left in the world? And nearly all varieties of sea turtles are endangered? Fireball hopes that this series will help people take notice of these tragedies.
Bill Ball Fireball discovered his artistic talent about four years ago after experiencing loss in his family. The painting process, which he refers to as “meditating with my eyes open”, took him through a roller-coaster of emotions.
As he put brush to canvas he waded through anger, sadness and loss until he came to a place of ultimate peace and love. He encourages engaging in artistic expression for anyone who is experiencing loss or pain as a therapeutic way to process emotions and gain healing.
Thursday night in Everett, Bill Ball Fireball along with many other artists shared their talents, their ideas, and their beauty with us. As we Art-Walked, we were coerced into new perspectives, our hearts were opened to new ideas.
