Billie on Gourmet Burgers: Incomparable Menu of Excellent Burgers

Editor’s Note: Originally published January 11, 2022.

Sandwiched in between two of my favorite restaurants Pickletime Deli & Market and Chops, there’s another with a funny name. Billie on Gourmet Burgers & Fish Chips. These restaurants are located in the “Boeing Food Court” at Hardeson and 75th, just a 5-minute drive from my house. Lucky me!

I got a little off course on my quest to eat my way through the food court, but I’m back on track. I took an opportunity during winter break to order lunch for me and my son.

The menu is packed with so many tempting burgers, 23 to be exact, including a bulgogi burger, but I ordered a standard cheeseburger for comparison purposes. These days when I want a burger I usually head to Mikie’s.

I believe there are two types of burgers, a classic drive-in burger like Mikie’s and Ray’s and then gourmet burgers like you’d make at home. Bille’s definitely fits into the gourmet category with the hearty bun and thick, well-seasoned patty. Toppings were piled high and my photos don’t do justice because I did take out. I saw the baskets of burgers coming out of the kitchen being delivered to tables while I was waiting. They looked glorious and very photo-worthy.

My burger was excellent. It was made from ⅓ lb of Angus beef and served with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onions and house sauce. It was a hearty burger and I could not eat it all. I opted to pay $1 extra for onion rings which were good, but my favorite onion rings are beer-battered and these were not. Next time I’ll probably try the waffle, curly or sweet potato fries.

I was hoping my son would order fish and chips or a chicken burger for comparison to other places we like to eat, but he opted for shrimp and chips. He’d had them at Ivars on the Mukilteo waterfront for the first time last summer and they made an impression on him I guess.

Billie’s shrimp is nothing like Ivar’s. They were at least a jumbo shrimp and I’m guessing that Ivar’s uses a small shrimp. “Yum…” is how they were. The fries were equally enjoyed. They were super crispy and so delicious. It’s hard to get many words out of teenagers, but he asked to go back the next day and so I’m taking that as a very positive review.

I tried the tartar sauce that came with his order. He seemed pleased with it but it wasn’t as thick and creamy as I like, and flavored with dill rather than pickles or cornichons. I can overlook it though because they have fry sauce, which I like so much better than plain ketchup.

He also ordered an Oreo shake and was disappointed that it came in a soda cup and that it didn’t have chunks of Oreos in it. Life’s tough that way sometimes. He drank the entire thing so I guess it was still pretty good.

Billie on Gourmet Burgers offers several fish and chicken options plus a gardenburger for vegetarians. There’s a kids’ menu and some yummy sides like fried zucchini and mushrooms.

We’ll be headed back and I’ll be ordering something incomparable, like the bulgogi burger.
