CBD 101 with Alchemy Health & Wellness CBD
What do bath bombs, gummies, and cooking oil all have in common?
They can all be infused with CBD.
I’ve been hearing a lot about CBD in recent years. It's currently one of the fastest growing industries in the world. I didn’t really know anything about CBD though, so I was excited to go chat with Alchemy Health & Wellness CBD co-owner, Dan Sloy.
I met with Sloy at Alchemy’s Everett store on a grey winter afternoon.
Sloy excitedly gave me a tour of the store while educating me on CBD. Alchemy is big on education, Sloy shared with me. “One of the biggest challenges is the fact that most people haven’t heard of CBD yet.”
So what is it exactly?
CBD (Cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid extracted from mature agriculture hemp plants. CBD helps regulate the body's endocannabinoid system which allows an enhanced state of homeostasis.
For many years CBD was unavailable due to the 1937 Marajuana Act that outlawed hemp plants altogether. Even though CBD comes from hemp plants, it does not produce an altered state like marajuana or alcohol.
CBD is non-psychoactive and is most commonly used for pain relief and also helps with inflammation, depression, arthritis, anxiety, sleep, ADD, skin conditions, and more. Thanks to the 2018 Hemp Act which legalized the hemp plant, CBD is once again available.
Alchemy’s most popular products are their tinctures, pain sticks, and sleep capsules. Sloy firmly believes the right form of CBD with the right dosage can help almost anyone.
“Unfortunately, not all CBD is made the same, though,” shared Sloy. “There are really good marketers out there with shiny packages selling inferior products. It’s tough, because someone might try CBD for the first time and have a bad experience, and then never try it again.”
Sloy knows CBD well.
He also works in acquisitions related to agricultural hemp farms. Working directly with sustainable family farms throughout Washington and Oregon allows him to find the highest quality producers and to negotiate the best prices.. This translates into higher quality products at lower prices for their customers.
Sloy and business partner, Jill Humphrey’s, believe in CBD so much, they actually started working to launch their business in 2017, before the 2018 Hemp Act was even official.
Alchemy is the first chain of CBD stores in Washington state. Being life-long locals to Snohomish County, their stores are located in Everett, Marysville, and now in the Alderwood Mall. They even have an R&D facility and create products under their own brand, Sola-CBD.
It’s not just people who benefit from CBD either. “Animals, because of the way they digest fats, actually absorb CBD 5-6x better than humans do,” Sloy shared.
“It's not uncommon that an elderly dog with joint pain will suddenly be rolling around on the floor like a puppy again. Or even a person who has struggled with joint pain forever, they’re ecstatic about the results.”
“That’s my favorite part,” shared Sloy. “When someone comes in sharing how much it helped them. It happens a lot, and it never gets old.”
If you’re interested to learn more about CBD, the folks at Alchemy will be happy to educate you and guide you on your wellness journey. Stop on by and say hi.
They’re even currently offering a “Buy One Get One” sale through the end of the year.
