The Fun Continues: Broadway Hobbies Picks Up Speed with New Owner
I recently stopped by Broadway Hobbies to meet the new owner. Travis Lovestedt, an energetic real estate agent, was initially helping the previous owner sell Broadway Hobbies. However, when no buyer could be found, rather than the business shuttering, Lovestedt decided to buy it himself.
Enthusiasts can now continue enjoying their hobbies and building community around this local hub, just as they’ve done for decades.
Whether you’re into RC cars, boats, trains, planes, models or just need parts or a repair; Broadway Hobbies is your one-stop shop for all things hobby.
They even have “crawler courses” if you like to take your RC car bouldering.
And there’s an entire room reserved for running model trains. Numerous intricate villages surrounded by train tracks fill the room. I felt like I could spend an entire day just looking at all of the details in these mini villages. The space is used by the Broadway Hobby Shop Railroad Club.
I even met one of the Railroad Clubs members, an older gentleman named Joseph. Joseph shared how the train villages provided the perfect place to gather with fellow train enthusiasts. The Broadway Hobby Shop Railroad Club costs $5/month to join. Joseph also belongs to a traveling railroad club that moves their train set via tow-trailer for different events, the Moose Creek Logging Company.
I’ve never been much of a hobbyist with these sorts of things, yet there’s something still so nostalgic about old businesses like these. They’re so delightful and impractical, in the best of ways.
If you’ve never stopped by Broadway Hobbies, you might recognize the iconic building nestled between QFC and Henry’s Donuts in North Everett. A smallish building, “The Broadway Mall,” is home to a few small businesses. The building stands out because of its southwest-style architecture with a stucco exterior and red tile roof.
It’s unique for the area, for sure.
Lovestedt is no stranger to Everett. He grew up in the area; his mother was the owner of the Prohibition turned Prohibition Gastropub of Gordon Ramsey fame.
I appreciated Lovestedt’s honesty when I asked if he had been into these sorts of hobbies for long.
“No, not really.” Lovestedt shared. “When I was a kid I loved them, but I’ve just recently started getting back into them again. And it’s super fun!”
While Lovestedt may be new to immersing himself into the hobby business, it’s clear he has the energy and heart for it.
In addition to continuing the legacy at Broadway Hobbies, Lovestedt plans to add online sales to the business. And if all goes as planned, he eventually hopes to open a 2nd location.
Until then, the fun continues.
