Spot Check: Monkey Fist Market
When my son was younger, I often needed to dangle a carrot to get buy-in to do what I needed, like grocery shopping or exercising. Sometimes that carrot was a treat. There is now the coolest carrot to get the littles on a walk at the Everett waterfront.
Located at Port of Everett’s South Docks, Monkey Fist is a convenience store for boaters living in or visiting the marina. The name Monkey Fist comes from a knot that looks like a monkey’s fist or if you’re me, it looks like a cool rope ball that dogs might love.
Monkey’s Fist has all the basics from plastic wrap, toilet paper and personal care items to pasta, tuna and soy milk. Lots of basics, but if you’re brand loyal, you should have planned better. There’s only Kraft Mac and Cheese, no Annie’s.
There’s chips, candy, cold beverages, and a coffee and tea bar for the rest of us to enjoy. The individually wrapped candy section will enchant the kiddos that didn’t want to leave the house in the first place.
Monkey Fist is also a nautical-themed gift shop. If you live on the Grand Avenue bluff, you can run across the bridge to pick up that hostess gift you forgot. They have a selection of puzzles, jewelry, beautiful handmade wood pens, and more. There are also macrame plant hangers that were popular in my childhood.
Monkey Fist has done an impressive job curating and displaying merchandise in the shop, and the location has the best views. They are in between Anthony’s Woodfire Grill and Anthony’s Homeport. You’ll need to enter the market from the waterside.
Next time you need to check exercise and gift shopping off your list, head to our beautiful marina and get it done at Monkey Fist Market.
Pro tip: If, like me, you don’t live within walking distance of the port, it is fun to park on Grand near Grand Avenue Park and walk across the bridge to get to the waterfront. Here’s a map with some walking route options.
