BBQ Pulled Porkless Sandwiches and New Digs at The Bayside Cafe

Exciting news- I recently did not eat a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich.

I did, however, have the distinct pleasure of consuming a meat-free BBQ Pulled Porkless Sandwich from The Bayside Cafe.

The pulled BBQ seitan specialty sandwich came in a perfectly toasted brioche bun with coleslaw and mayo, all deliciously blending this marvelous wonder. As I’ve mostly cut meat from my diet in recent years, I will admit I sometimes crave some of the classics, such as a good bbq pulled pork sandwich, so this thing seriously hit the spot.

Everything served at The Bayside Cafe is vegan, from chickun burgers and sliders to a bacun burger, brats, buffalo wingz and more. The Bayside Cafe started at a small space on Hewitt in downtown Everett a couple of years back, and they recently moved to a much larger space just down the street at 3001 Broadway.

While only a few blocks apart, the two locations are very different. Their prior space had only street parking and a narrow entrance with a small seating area. The new location has an actual parking lot, a roomier entrance with a bench seat, a large dining room with big comfy booths, a lounge, and a great vibe.

I went on a sunny day and decided to get my order to go and take it to the skatepark with me. I soaked in the lobby while I waited and perused the “Why Vegan” booklets by the front door. The booklets have information about veganism, including health benefits, easy meal ideas, tips for eating out, and insight and perspective on cruelty in the meat industry. The front counter houses a glass display case with a great selection of pro-vegan stickers.

My order only took about 15 minutes and then I was on my way to enjoy eating it over at the skatepark.

I headed to Lake Stevens skatepark and slammed a handful of bites as I messed my fingers in glorious bbq goodness. I really wanted to go skate, so I saved part of my sandwich and almost all of my tater tots (there were a lot of tots!) for when I got home later.

At home, the sandwich tasted even better. Perhaps the bbq sauce had soaked in or I was just less distracted. I simply couldn’t believe how stinking delicious it was. The tots were perfectly cooked. And there were so many I had a bunch left over that I paired with my lunch the next day.

I will definitely be back, likely many times. Especially now that The Bayside Cafe has such convenient parking and seating. They have a kids' menu and sometimes offer other fun options such as Sunday brunch or a late-night menu. So much vegan goodness to explore!
