Everett’s Newest Coffee House is Worth Finding: Nadines

Finding Nadines the first time isn’t particularly easy. The parking situation also isn’t great. The seating can fill up fast, and it’s not very ideal for groups.

And these are just a few of the reasons that I love it.

Nadines has style. The style and heart of a little gem in a vibrant city.

As if you stumbled into a 1930s back-alley speakeasy in France kind of style. I mean, I’ve never been to the 1930s. Or France. But Nadines is how I picture it.

High ceilings with low hanging lights. Brick walls with very little windows.

A piano staged in the corner next to the sofa on a slightly elevated stage.

White tile countertops with a few stools at the bar. A few other intimately placed tables; one built into the wall with an embedded chessboard.

Finely crafted finishes. A row of glossy white tap handles surrounded with polished silver and gold accents.

The tap handles are filled with different types of milk; soy, almond, hemp.

In addition to classic coffee menu options you’d expect, the menu also offers mocktails worthy of the vibes homage. On one visit, I opted for the mocktail Old Fashioned; adorned with a perfectly twisted orange peel on top. One large ice cube in a textured glass on a black cocktail napkin that made me feel like it wasn’t 2 p.m. on a weekday.

It was an exquisite experience worth repeating.

Alcohol be damned, I actually enjoyed my mocktail more than the $15 Old Fashioned I got at the infamous Please Don’t Tell in New York City. And Nadines’ version was not $15.

Was it $6? I don’t know. I can’t remember. I met a friend there and was busy getting lost in long conversation. Something that feels right in such a place.

On another visit, I opted to test out a pop-by for a pick-up. Not surprisingly, I couldn't find any parking on that block. That was alright, walking is a pastime that I always forget that I love. Again, bad parking… one of the reasons I dig Nadines. The best things in life aren’t served up with the utmost convenience, you have to go a little out of your way, and then you get to appreciate them that much more.

This time around I went for a Chai Tea Latte, and the last croissant on the counter called my name. I asked Kyle, the manager, how much it was. “Normally $4, but they’re half off today.” Sold! I was even more delighted when I learned it was from Despi Delite Bakery.

They warmed the croissant in the toaster oven without asking. Because no one would ever choose to not have their croissant warmed.

The flavor of the Chai was deep and robust; a little more punch than I’m used to. I enjoyed its distinctiveness and appreciated the experience.

From my few brief visits so far, that’s what Nadines is - an experience. An experience worth finding.

The treat will be worth the walk.
