Pickletime Deli & Market: 5-Stars in My Book

You may have seen my recent article on Chops which I said was located in a “little food oasis of sorts” on Hardeson. I’ve since learned that that oasis is referred to as the Boeing Food Court and after diving into yelp ratings, that it’s worth my time to check out some of the other restaurants.

I’ve always noticed the brightly painted Pickletime Deli & Market at the far end of the food court and wondered why anyone would name their business that. I tend to be too literal and serious sometimes so I decided to relax and I’d give it a try.

I stopped in early, a little after 11, on a Tuesday because I was concerned that they’d be busy. There were some people in a large seating area, but I was able to walk up to the counter and order and the next thing I know, my made-to-order sandwiches were done.

I had a little time to browse around to see what else they offered and I was blown away by this one-stop-meal-shop. It’s like a convenience store, but bigger and with made-to-order sandwiches.

The menu is huge with hot grinders, wraps and deli sandwiches, pasta salads, soups and something new called BOE Wings. You get that, right?

There are sandwiches premade to grab and go and cases full of to-go beverages including beer and wine. They also have a breakfast menu.

And candy, gum, chips, Twinkies.

Oh, and gelato.

It’s funny though because I don’t recall seeing any pickles.

I ordered an Italian grinder. It came on toasted poor boy bread with ham, Genoa salami, mayo, pepperoni, provolone, lettuce and tomato with oil and vinegar.

My husband ordered a turkey club on wheat. It came with thick-sliced deli turkey, mayo, bacon, lettuce and tomato.

Everything was fresh and delicious. I don’t know what else to say about it other than it’s 5-stars in my book and I highly recommend you go check Pickletime out.

My son ordered a Polish dog and I was disappointed because don’t Polish dogs always taste like Polish dogs? But I guess a great thing about Pickletime is that everyone can get what they want to get. His dog didn’t come with ketchup or mustard so I may have missed a condiment counter, but I plan to be back very soon so I’ll look for it next time.

We sometimes go to Jersey Mike’s or Jimmy Johns for sandwiches because they are closest to us in southwest Everett, but I’m thinking Pickletime is going to be our new go-to spot. In addition to the great food, they are open early 6 days a week and close late. How’s that for convenience? The only thing they are missing is the gas pump.

We went back. Just three days later. I learned that they serve breakfast all day and that works great for my son who didn’t wake up until 11 a.m. He’s either leaning into summer break or recovering from the school year. You can get a pickle if you ask and I found the mustard but it had a nice coating of grease on the bottle, presumably from mechanics. Despite the mechanic grease, Pickletime is still my new favorite sandwich spot. I’ll just be using my own mustard.
