Slow down, You're Doing Fine … Ethereal Sound & Wellness

This story is brought to you by Live in Everett Member ESC Mattress Center.

In the never-ending plethora of daily emails that zip past my eyeballs, a recent one stood out. “Slow down, you’re doing fine,” the subject line read. Just reading the subject line helped me breathe a little easier. Though I suppose that’s the business Savannah Powers of Ethereal Sound and Wellness is in.

I recently had the pleasure of attending one of Savannah’s sound bath events at the Sno-Isle Food Co-op. If you just said to yourself, “what in the world is a sound bath?” Don’t worry; I was there myself not long ago. And well, before I share more, I’d first actually like to share Savannah’s newsletter that had caught my eye with its subject line …

Slow down, you’re doing fine…

~ Hey there ~

Spring has fully sprung, my garden is bursting with green, and the lilacs (my fav) are in their final few days. When you live in the Pacific Northwest and you only have a few months a year of sunshine, you feel the pressure to get "all the things done" while you still have good weather. I am super grateful that my day job allows me to have summers off, but I've realized in all honesty, that I also fall victim to the grind. How much can I pack into this small amount of time? Camping trips, sound baths, markets, harvesting trips, and traveling abroad to visit family. We want to make the best of our time here on this beautiful planet.

But....it is important that in all the fun, chaos, and events in our lives that we schedule a time to just be. Remember that we can 'live' this life year-round, not just when the sun shines. So layer up in the winter & get that camping trip in, go for walks in the rain, and enjoy all the small moments. Then when summer hits, remember that we can still take the time to slow down. Give ourselves permission to relax & unwind. There is power in movement, but there is presence in stillness. When we sit with ourselves in uncomfortable spaces, this is where we grow and expand.

As Savannah alluded to there (while beautifully capturing the spirit of Spring in the PNW), sound baths offer a chance to slow down.

The sound bath I did with Savannah was only my 3rd experience doing any type of sound bath, but essentially you get comfy laying on the floor (or any position you want to rest in), and the practitioner plays a large number of singing bowls that create a rich array of relaxing sound waves to wash over you.

It’s really quite restorative to let your body feel the vibrations of the sounds while you just lay there and breathe. I’m sure the experience is different for everyone, but it is quite meditative and can even bring up stuff from within you that you didn’t even know was there.

In our busy day and age, it can be easy to not only be detached from our own feelings but even be detached from our own bodies (yes, literally). Sound baths can offer an immersive experience to help restore or deepen our connection with our own selves.

Those are my take anyways just from my experience. Experience is the best teacher, though, so ifyou’d like to try a sound bath for yourself, check out Savannah’s upcoming schedule here.

And whichever sounds you find yourself bathing in, may they help you remember: slow down, you’re doing fine ...
