Everett
Your Medium/Craft:
Stone carving, charcoal, oil pastel, oil stick
Years doing your craft:

How did you first get started in your craft?
I've done art all my life. I fell in love with large-scale charcoal drawing while majoring in Art at Wesleyan University. Oil pastels are a recent melding of a Conte crayon on tinted paper technique that I recently developed using crinkled-up grocery bags. I learned to work in stone (alabaster) at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, VT.
Favorite Artist(s) and/or Inspirations:
Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, William Blake, Rockwell Kent, Romaine Brooks, Edward Hopper, Maxfield Parrish, any and all of the Pre-Raphaelites, T Barney, Picasso, Louise Bourgeois, Louise Nevelson, Joseph Cornell, Constantin Brancusi, Walter Pichler
Favorite Piece You've Created?
"Cornucopia" and many of the "Sleepers"
What’s the most challenging part of being an artist, or something you had to overcome?
I'm constantly having to answer the question of "Why is art valuable?" Whether the end result is deemed valuable to any other person or not, the process of creating is essential to my existence.
How can people be supportive of the arts?
Make art a bigger part of their own lives.
