A peek into the past // Christopher Bragg
Recently that was painted over for the new tenant moving in, Salish Sea Ceramic Studio, which I heard about via a tip from Live in Everett founder Tyler Chism. I read on Facebook that the grand opening was January 30th, and reached out to owner Rachel Recker to learn more.
Tell me about yourself and the studio.
I have a dog named Trulove and before starting Salish Sea Ceramic Studio I was working as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Salish Sea Ceramic Studio is my response to 2020 and moving forward into the next decade. Art has always been how I process my emotions and I want to be able to give that opportunity to others as there are a lot of emotions which need processing right now. We moved in at the beginning of January and have been busy cleaning and moving into the space. In February I plan to open to memberships and offer Valentine's Day classes.

Are you from Everett and if not how did you decide to open a shop here?
Originally I am from New York City! I moved to the PNW after art school 13 years ago but moved to Everett from the U District this fall. I think a lot of people were forced to move this year. I had a lot of friends moving to Everett and have worked in Maltby and spent a lot of time out on Highway 2 so moving here seemed inevitable. About a year ago I had the thought that opening a ceramic studio in Everett would be a good future for me. I just didn't think it would happen so soon!
What do you love about Everett and the area where you're opening the shop?
I love the ocean and the sunsets. It's really awesome in Everett we can smell the ocean! Being able to hang out on the corner and watch the light change is such a treat. The spot on Hewitt has the biggest and most windows ever. Honestly, it is the nicest place I have ever made art and I am so grateful I get to turn this into an art space.
